University of Maine at Farmington Offers Children's Learn to Ski Program at Titcomb Mountain

FARMINGTON, ME (October 2, 2009)--The University of Maine at Farmington is
pleased to offer the UMF SnowCats Learn to Ski Program for children in
grades K-3 at Titcomb Mountain, in Farmington, this winter. The program
will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m., on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons
beginning Thursday, January 21, through Tuesday, March 2.

The continuation of a long-standing relationship between UMF and the
popular ski and snowboard mountain, the "SnowCats" program will provide
trained UMF student instructors to teach beginning skiing basics to young
children. "We're excited that UMF students will be helping children in the
community develop the skills that can lead to a life-long enjoyment of
skiing," said Jim Toner, director of the UMF Fitness and Recreation Center.
"The FRC provides our students with the opportunity to learn new skills and
acquire valuable work experience while also coming together with the
community with everyone's health and fitness as the common goal."

The program will be administered by Jennifer Pageot, assistant director at
the UMF Fitness and Recreation Center, who provides leadership with a
number of programs at the UMF facility. Pageot has significant ski and
mountain experience, has taught at Sugarloaf's ski instructional program
and currently works on ski patrol at Sugarloaf in the winter months.

Fees for the program are $90 for non-members of the Farmington Ski Club and
$50 for members. Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on
Saturday, October 17, at Titcomb Mountain Lodge during the annual Pass
Blast event. Following that date, registrations will continue at the UMF
Fitness and Recreation Center located at 152 Quebec Street. The deadline
for program registration is December 18.
