Ski Industries Program
One of the first and only programs of its kind in the entire nation, UMF’s renowned Ski Industries Certificate Program allows you to combine your love of skiing or snowboarding with a high quality college education. This unique program will prepare you for a variety of professional, year-round careers in the ski industry.
Open to students enrolled in any UMF major, this specialized program combines a Bachelor’s degree with
a one of three specific concentrations:
- Ski Business Management
- Professional Ski Coaching and Ski Teaching
- Adaptive Ski Teaching
NEW - The UMF Ski Industries Program is Officially Endorsed by Sugarloaf, Saddleback and Sunday River!
While the UMF Ski Industries Program works closely with many ski resorts and ski areas across New England, the U.S., Canada, and
worldwide, Maine's three largest ski resorts, Sugarloaf, Saddleback Mountain, and Sunday River have reviewed the Ski Industries Program curriculum and offerings and
each mountain has given the program its official endorsement.
Attracting Students From All Academic Backgrounds
Students in the Ski Industries Program come from a diverse range of majors: Business Economics,
Community Health Education, Rehabilitation Services, Secondary Education, Special Education, Environmental
Science, Psychology, you name it.
And perhaps not surprisingly, Ski Industries students are found to be among Farmington's top academic achievers. This is testament to the students' dedication to their schoolwork, as well as to their on-mountain experience.
Internships: Learn By Doing
A hallmark of our Ski Industries Certificate Program
is our commitment to putting you to work in the field, early and often. Each concentration combines
course work with practical experience through several practicums and a final internship in the ski
industry. There's simply no better way to put your classroom skills to the test. This is where you'll
cut your teeth and make important industry contacts.
Our PERFECT Location
We're closer to more world-class, four-season ski resorts:
Sugarloaf/USA, Sunday River, Saddleback Mountain, etc., than any college in New England. And the town of
Farmington even has its own ski area, Titcomb Mountain, just seven minutes from campus.
With our perfect location it's no wonder Farmington has long been the college of first choice for students -- from Maine to New Zealand -- looking to combine serious snow sports with rigorous academics. Without a doubt, Farmington is the place to be.
The UMF Ski Industries program is affiliated with the National Ski Areas Association, Snow Sports Industries of America, New England Winter Sports Representatives Incorporated, the Professional Ski Writers Association, the Maine Alpine Race Association, and Ski Maine.
