Nervous about living away from home for the first time? Most first-year students are too, so you've already got something in common with many students in your residence hall.

You Have a Lot in Common
What else might you have in common with your residence hall neighbors? You'll all be around the same age, taking some of the same classes, attending some of the same after-hours programs and sharing some of the same concerns.

You'll all be dining together in South Dining Hall, hanging out in each other's rooms, going to the Library and working out at the Fitness & Recreation Center. And through all of this you'll be making friendships you'll value the rest of your life.

Face it, you'll never again have a time in your life when you have so much in common with your neighbors. And the best thing is that all you have to do is simply open your door to meet all these new and interesting people.

Living in the Residence Halls
There are nine residence halls to choose from (a mix of older and newer buildings) each housing 80-140 students. Each residence hall building is smoke-free, safe (accessible only by protected pass-card entries), has hardwired and wireless Internet access, and is wired for cable TV. Every residence hall also has study areas, TV and social lounges, meeting areas and laundry facilities. All residence hall rooms are single-sex only.

Each residence hall (and floor) hosts regular fun functions: cookouts, shopping trips, movie nights at the local theater, yoga classes, intramural teams, even overnight trips to Montreal, Quebec City or Boston. And this is just the "formal" programming.

Each hall also has professional and student staff who are there to help you with problems, help plan activities, connect you to the on- and off campus resources you need and more.

Choose the Housing to Fit Your Lifestyle
The University of Maine at Farmington gives you choices on where — and how — to live. Maybe you’d like to be in a residence hall dedicated to healthy living (Stone Hall) or a scholar area in Scott North or Scott South of the Scott Hall Complex. Prefer to live in a residence hall that’s co-ed or all women? Maybe a suite-style living community in our newest residence hall, Frances Allen Black Hall, which opened in 2006.

Perhaps you're interested in the independent living community in Mallett Hall. We even have exciting new "theme housing" options in Purington Hall, with sections of the building devoted to like-minded students — Farmington students who are into the same things: participating in active outdoor pursuits, following their passion in the arts, laser-focusing on education, honing their leadership skills, etc.
