VP for Academic Affairs and Provost
Allen Berger
My title may seem long and is perhaps unfamiliar. Simply put, I'm the chief academic officer of UMF.
My responsibilities include working with our two Deans, the academic department chairs, various administrative units, and the faculty on all matters related to the curriculum and academics. I've been here since 2000 and I've enjoyed every minute. Well, almost every minute.
As a student, you may have a concern about a course or an academic requirement. While you should usually discuss these kinds of matters with your instructor, advisor, or department chair, I welcome opportunities to steer you in the right direction or provide assistance. My office door is always open (weekdays 8am-4:30pm).
I also enjoy conversations with students about how the University can improve our academic programs and services. Over the years, we've found that student input is vital to the maintenance of our academic quality. So by all means, please stop by and let me know what you're thinking and what UMF can do better! Also what you think we're doing right.
I have a wonderful wife and two bright children (one a journalist, the other a lawyer) both of whom took my advice and attended liberal arts colleges. This is the sector of higher education where I work, because I'm absolutely convinced that UMF and schools with similar missions engage students and develop their talents and abilities better than any other kind of college or university.
When not working, I love to fish and bicycle. You may see me commuting back and forth to UMF on my recumbent bike; if so, please wave. Other hobbies include kayaking, tennis, reading, and international travel.
